How many guests fit at a table
Before you can seat anyone, you need to know how many chairs go around each table. Here are the standard sizes and what they hold.
Round tables
Rounds are the most common reception table. Typical seating runs:
- 48 inch round: about 6 guests
- 60 inch round: about 8 guests, the most common size
- 72 inch round: about 10 to 12 guests
Rectangular and banquet tables
Long tables seat people down both sides and sometimes the ends:
- 6 foot banquet: about 6 to 8 guests
- 8 foot banquet: about 8 to 10 guests
- King's tables: push tables end to end and count both long sides
How many tables you need
Divide your headcount by the seats per table, then round up. A hundred guests at 8 per table is 13 tables, at 10 per table it is 10 tables.
Leave a little slack. Seating every table to its absolute limit makes the room feel cramped and leaves nowhere for a last-minute yes.

Usually 8 guests comfortably, or up to 10 if you seat them tight. The 60 inch round is the most common reception table size.
